One conscious way to encourage students to use feedback to guide their own learning is to have them read over the comments I make on their essay and then they construct a T chart on their strengths and weaknesses. They put this on the outside of their portfolios to keep a record of progress and how to prepare for next essay. They review tier own feedback again before writing the next esay
