Hello! My name is Alexandra Schmitt, I am starting as the Theatre Arts teacher at Salem High School for the next school year. I attended Roanoke College for a duel licensure in elementary and secondary theatre. Thank you for adding me to this site! Cant wait to explore it!
My name is Staci Hartman, I am the K-12 Language Arts/Title 1/Instructional Coach Coordinator for Harrisonburg City Public Schools. I attended the VASCD conference and very much enjoyed your talk. I am bringing a group of 8 educators/administrators to hear you tomorrow! I am hoping for a "systems" approach to assessing students reading/comprehension for HCPS. I look forward to tomorrow!
Hi Scott, thanks for accepting my request to be a member of this site. Assessment is the buzz word at our school as it is in so many others and I have been doing quite a bit of reading lately. Came across this site when I was reading a colleague's blog and was impressed with what it offered. Looking forward to being an active member and inviting other colleagues to join also. Thanks!
I refer the current grading system at my school as factory grading. If I do this, I earn that! The problem with it as I have shared with our staff is that we are not training factory workers anymore. I like the word scoring but I also like assessing because it is an ongoing assessment that takes place if you are determining learning. I am particularly interested in rubrics and recently attended a one day workshop with Dr. Marzano and Dr. Hefflebower. It was very enlightening. Looking forward to their research.
